Carob comes from the leguminous fruits of the carob tree, which largely grows in the Mediterranean. Carob trees as they are also called, adjusts just fine against extreme temperatures because their deeply buried roots find water under any circumstances. Now they are grown worldwide. The tree is also often seen in ornamental gardens, especially in California.

Carob powder has been used for centuries as a natural sweetener. It is obtained by grinding the pods. And can be either used alternatively or in combination with cocoa.
The pods have a high nutritional value and are chock full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It contains the vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and D, as well as the minerals calcium, potassium, magnesium, barium, iron, copper, nickel and phosphorus.

Carobpowder is excellent to use as a sweetener in smoothies, cakes and desserts. The dosage is not particularly close and should be added to your liking and taste.
