I come straight from the Atlantic Ocean. My base is kombu (Laminaria digitata), a type of seaweed that grows naturally in the clear waters off the coast of County Clare in Ireland. Here, the seaweed is hand-harvested and carefully dried before being ground into a fine kelp powder.

My flavour brings a touch of the sea to your kitchen: salty, slightly savoury and naturally rich in umami. It is no coincidence that kombu has long played an important role in Japanese cuisine. Its characteristic umami flavour adds depth to dishes and pairs beautifully with both simple and more pronounced ingredients.

Thanks to my fine powder form, I am surprisingly versatile. Add a small amount to soups, broths, sauces or savoury dishes, or simply sprinkle me over your favourite meal. You can also mix me into a smoothie or shake. As my salty flavour is quite distinctive, you only need a little to experience my characteristic taste of the sea.
