Usually green tea comes from heating up water and placing parts of leaves into the hot water. Matcha green tea is different. It's made from a fine green powder. This powder is the result of grounding whole leaves from green tea trees. About three weeks before harvest, these trees are covered in shade cloths, which triggers a better flavor and texture. The leaves are hand picked, then steamed for a bit to stop them from fermenting, and then they are dried. Originally this form of tea is part of a ceremony from traditional Japan.
