Reishi (ghanoderma lingzhi) is a mushroom, or fungus. The fungus grows as a parasite on the root base and dead stumps of various deciduous trees, especially those of the maple family. Reishi occurs in nature mainly in Asia. The mushroom is very rare and therefore Reishi is nowadays mostly grown on wood chips, as is the case for Vimergy Reishi Powder.
Reishi is also called Lingzhi in China. It is a commonly used mushroom in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Science is also very interested in reishi and a lot of research is being done into the ingredients and effect. The active ingredients found in reishi include polysaccharides (such as beta-glucans), sterols and alkaloids.
