One of the most powerful herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has been used since ancient times for a variety of conditions and is best known for its restorative benefits. In Sanskrit, Ashwagandha means "the smell of a horse", which indicates that the herb provides a stallion's strength and strength.

Ashwagandha is often referred to as "Indian ginseng" for its rejuvenating properties, although botanically ginseng and ashwagandha have no connection. Belonging to the same family as the tomato, Ashwagandha is a plump shrub with oval leaves and yellow flowers. The herb bears red fruits the size of raisins. It is native to the arid regions of India, North Africa, and the Middle East, and today it grows in milder climates, including the United States. The root is extracted and then ground into a powder.
The main chemical constituents of ashwagandha are alkaloids and steroidal lactones. These include tropin and cuscohygrine.
