Magnesium is a mineral that plays an important role in more than 300 enzymatic processes, bone structure, building of body protein, relaxing and proper functioning of the muscles, the cardiovascular system (heart and blood vessels) and stress reduction. It also relaxes the brain and may promote better sleep.
Why is it that many people are deficient in magnesium?
During periods of stress, physical or mental, your body uses more magnesium. Also, if you excercise a lot or do heavy physical work, your body uses more magnesium that needs to be replenished. Magnesium is in our diet, but not nearly as much as before. This is due to the lower quality of agricultural soils and the use of fertilizers. Many people also do not know that high calcium levels reduce magnesium levels. Therefore it is important to use these two minerals in proper proportion.
Some symptoms of magnesium deficiency are muscle cramps, lethargy, headache, restlessness, fatigue, concentration problems.
The best way to get magnesium is through the skin (transdermal). So you can take a bath or foot bath with magnesium flakes, or rub your skin with magnesium oil or magnesium gel. When your body has enough magnesium, it will not take up anymore.
